Holy Name Parish maintains an active cemetery. Grave sites are purchased through the Parish Office. Columbaria are also available for cremation remains. There is a perpetual fund set up to continue to maintain the cemetery. This fund is deposited with the Diocese of Gary and is managed by the Finance committee.

Cemetery Rules (updated February 2024):

General
Hours – Grounds: dawn to dusk · Office: Monday – Thursday 8:30 am – 4:00 pm
Any person found on the cemetery grounds after closing will be considered trespassing.
Any person damaging cemetery property or head stones will be reported to authorities.
No dogs, bicycles, skates, skateboards, snowmobiles, etc. allowed on cemetery grounds.

Strictly Prohibited:
The planting of shrubs, plants, flowers, etc.
Shepherd’s hooks or similar objects of any kind.
Lighting, fences, decorative curbing, landscape edging, rocks and any other possible tripping hazard(s).
Statues, wind chimes, candles, glass objects and loose objects.

Graves & Headstones
Wreaths, seasonal decorations and grave blankets are allowed but must be removed in a timely manner.
All Christmas decorations must be removed by January 15th.
All the above must be attached to the headstone; please note that anything not attached to the headstone will be removed and discarded.
American flags are permitted on Memorial Day, 4th of July & Veteran’s Day only.

Holy Name Cemetery reserves the right to remove all objects whose appearance is deemed dangerous or unsightly. Holy Name Cemetery will not be liable for any objects or decorations that are removed.


Standard graves are 40” wide. On a single grave the maximum width of the head stone is 32” wide and on a double grave the maximum width of the head stone is 72” wide, both allowing for a 4” border of the foundation to show. There is no restriction on the height of a headstone.

Graves for cremains are 36” wide. On a single grave the maximum width of the head stone is 24” wide
and on a double grave the maximum width of the head stone is 48” wide.

A foundation is required for the headstone and will be installed by a Holy Name Cemetery subcontractor at an additional expense based on the size of the headstone.

Military markers require a foundation or may be mounted on the backside of a headstone.

Columbarium Niches:
Nothing may be attached to niche face plates or columbarium units.
Niches are 12” wide x 12” deep x 12” high. Face plate engraving is standardized to maintain aesthetic.
